Rising Anti-Muslim Rhetoric?

Are Muslims in the US the victims of another McCarthy-type witch hunt?

For the first time in US history, at least 15 states have either approved or introduced bills banning sharia law.

On Wednesday’s Riz Khan we discuss the rise of anti-Muslim rhetoric with Islamic scholar Sheikh Hamza Yusuf.

These bills may make it a crime for Muslims to fast, pray, or even donate to charity. And on Thursday, in a move that many critics deem unconstitutional, congressional hearings chaired by Peter King, the Republican representative, will begin examining the so-called radicalisation within the American Muslim community.

Qur’an of the Week: A Good Loan

Who will make God a good loan? He will double it for him and reward him generously. On the day when you [Prophet] see the believers, both men and women, with their light streaming out ahead of them and to their right, [they will be told], ‘The good news for you today is that there are Gardens graced with flowing streams where you will stay: that is truly the supreme triumph!’

On the same Day, the hypocrites, both men and women, will say to the believers, ‘Wait for us! Let us have some of your light!’ They will be told, ‘Go back and look for a light.’ A wall with a door will be erected between them: inside it lies mercy, outside lies torment.

The hypocrites will call out to the believers, ‘Were we not with you?’ They will reply, ‘Yes. But you allowed yourselves to be tempted, you were hesitant, doubtful, deceived by false hopes until God’s command came—the Deceiver tricked you about God. Today no ransom will be accepted from you or from the disbelievers: your home is the Fire—that is where you belong—a miserable destination!’

House of God
In Yemen, mosques are vibrant places full of life and worship. As you see here, many gather to read the Qur’an, reflect, and remember God. This beautiful mosque, full of elderly gentlemen, had an ancient feel to it, yet felt electrically alive. The spirit of this mosque was strong — as many mosques in Yemen still are.

al-Mashrab  al-Ahna

A nasheed (sung poem) which calls upon the beautiful names of Allah, asking for His blessings, mercy, and grace. This gathering took place in Jeddah, Arabia. The majority of people you see are direct descendants of the Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him.

Enjoy!

How to Score Big with Women: a Psychological & Islamic Approach for Men

Every man dreams of having a woman who can please him on many different levels. One that fulfills his desires,  stimulates him intellectually and soars with him to new spiritual heights. A unique woman that will not only be a source of comfort, but also a source of strength. It is very easy to dream and have expectations of your spouse but what do YOU have to do in order to attract a woman with these qualities and keep her giving at that level?

These are some photos I took at the Islamic Center of America in Dearborn, MI. I love the very elaborate and traditional design and how there is just the right touch of modern style as well. It’s a beautiful mosque that really helps tell the unfolding narrative of Islam in America.

The Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, said, “God is beautiful and loves beauty.”

Hadith of the Week: Advice to a Young Man

‘Abdullah the son of ‘Abbas (may God be pleased with them both) said,

One day I was behind the Prophet, may the peace and mercy of God be upon him, and he said to me:

“Young man, I shall teach you some words [of advice]: Be mindful of God, and God will protect you. Be mindful of God, and you will find Him in front of you. If you ask, ask of God; if you seek help, seek the help of God. Know that if the Nation were to gather together to benefit you with anything, it would benefit you only with something God had already prescribed for you; and that if they gather together to harm you with anything, they would harm you only with something God had already prescribed for you. The pens have been lifted and the pages have dried.”

IT HAS NOT RAINED LIGHT
It has not rained light for many days.
The Wells in most eyes look
Drought-stricken.

Thus friends are not easy to find
In this barren
Place.

Where most everyone has become ill
From guarding
Nothing.

On this primal caravan
Careers and cities can appear real in this
Intense
Desert heat.

But I say to my close ones,
“Don’t get lost in them,
It has not rained light there for days.

Look, most everyone is diseased
From ‘making love’ to
Nothing.”

Qur’an of the Week: Exalted is He!

Exalted is He who holds all control in His hands; who has power over all things; who created death and life to test you and reveal which of you does best - He is the Mighty, the Forgiving; who created the seven heavens, one above the other. You will not see any disparity in what the Lord of mercy creates. Look again! Can you see any cracks? Look again! And again! Your sight will turn back to you, weak and defeated.

[67: 1-4]

Qur’an of the Week: the God-Conscious

‘I shall ordain My mercy for those who are conscious of God and pay the prescribed alms; who believe in Our Revelations; who follow the Messenger - the unlettered prophet they find described in the Torah that is with them, and in the Gospel - who commands them to do right and forbids them to do wrong, who makes good things lawful to them and bad things unlawful, and relieves them of their burdens, and the iron collars that were on them. So it is those who believe him, honor and help him, and who follow the light which has been sent down with him, who will succeed.’

[7:156-157]
