Perched
A day at Elizabeth Park in Hartford, CT. I love how birds are so alert and ready to move.

Bee
Someone once advised me:
You can be like a bee or you can be like a fly - a bee is focused on things beautiful; whereas a fly is focused on filth. Look for the beauty and do not point out that which is ugly.

Live Green
Took this when my brothers and sisters-in-law were making Sushi a couple weeks ago. It reminds me of a quote I read in a Michael Pollan book “In Defense of Food.” He wrote: “Eat food. Mostly Plants. Not too much.”

Kite Flying
I saw someone flying his kite one summer day. I admired the simplicity of his pleasure.

                                                Man of God
I can easily say one of the most amazing experiences I had was first meeting this man, Shaykh Abdullah Husayn Al-Jo’di. Despite his age and small frame, he had an awe-inspiring presence and his face emanated light.
It is with a heavy heart that I post this picture because I just received news today that he passed away last month in Ta’iz, Yemen. To God we belong, and to Him we return. Please pray for him.
Al-Fatiha.

These are some photos I took at the Islamic Center of America in Dearborn, MI. I love the very elaborate and traditional design and how there is just the right touch of modern style as well. It’s a beautiful mosque that really helps tell the unfolding narrative of Islam in America.

The Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, said, “God is beautiful and loves beauty.”

Shaykh ‘Abdus-Salam al-Asmar’s Mosque
In the city of Zleetin, Libya (about two hours drive from Tripoli). These are some beautiful tiles found on the walls surrounding the grave of Libya’s most well-known sage and spiritual master, Shaykh ‘Abdus-Salam al-Asmar (or al-Fayturi). Nearby is the mosque and Qur’an school established by the Shaykh.
